Introduction

The Malhun poem Qesset Hemman (“Story of Hamman”) is a sarcastic poem very rich in socio-anthropological elements. Composed by Al-Aissaoui Al-Fallous (died in 1955), it magisterially depicts the socio-cultural trends among the low society people in the city of Fes at the late forties to early fifties of the 20^th century.
